From the age of 15 and many days in the darkroom Katherine knew that photography was her passion in life. Studying photography in 1994 and 1995 in Christchurch Katherine specialised in documentary photography and environmental portraiture. Then she began to freelance as a photographer in 1996, undertaking assignments for many professional and private clients include major advertising campaigns for the Christchurch City Council and Christchurch Polytechnic. Like many Kiwi's the itchy feet came and Katherine went overseas and worked for a large cruise line company for 9 years as a photographer. During this time she managed large teams of photographers, specialised in wedding photography and became addicted to photoshop and the art of digital enhancement.

Neil undertook his training in professional photography from 1992 to 1994 in his English home city of Chester. The next 2 years he spent working in several fast paced commercial photography studios, covering a diverse range of areas including products, architecture, interiors, industrial, and fashion. Neil worked alongside three different photographers all with unique styles providing the basis for a diverse repertoire of techniques. He then left England also to work overseas a photographer and photography manager for 10 years. Whilst overseas Neil built up an extensive landscape portfolio, worked often in promotional product and interior photography and had opportunities to photograph many high profile events including photographing Princess Anne and Zara Philips.

Tandem Photography has grown from 2 people who are passionate about photography.

Katherine and Neil met over six years ago in Italy whilst both working for the same cruise line company. They then travelled and worked together managing teams of photographers. Deciding it was time for solid ground, they set up Tandem photography in January 2006. Katherine and Neil share a great passion for photography and people and having worked side by side for the last six years they consider the name Tandem to be a true statement of who they are and how they work....
